Welp... I'm probably crazy. But I've decided to write a workflow tool / kanban board for teams even though there are a million other ones, it's a ton of work, and nobody really loves any of them. If I'm crazy though, it's because existing tools have made me crazy. Here's what's driving me nuts with existing tools:
- They're pretty general purpose and have very little support for my particular itch: software product development.
- They try to help you manage tons of work at once instead of helping you focus.
- They don't really support teamwork well, and often even hurt the possibility of teamwork.
It's really kind of maddening as an engineering manager to be repeatedly teaching new people about how we use the tools, what features to avoid and how we actually work despite what the tool is trying to get them to do. People don't want to learn these things - - they just want to get to work. And they're right.
So whatever. I'm going to do it.
